Wayne, someone makes ebony tipped bridge inserts. You may be able to get
them from Bev King, or maybe Stew-Mac. I have had the ebony tipped and the
plain maple and to my ear there isn't much difference. To see what the
adjustment screw does, loosen it about a 1/4 turn at a time until it starts
to rattle, then tighten it 1/8 turn at a time until there is no improvement
or you reach 1 and a half turns. In any case stop at one and a half turns
from just snug.
