Hi List,
Just came home, (but not quite down to earth yet),from a wonderful jam session
we are fortunate to have here in the New England area. I'm referring to the
Boston Bluegrass Union sponsored, monthly jam session at the Stagecoach Inn in
Groton Ma. I didn't think I'd be able to go this month because of conflicting
obligations but I made it and whattatime. Yeee haw!!!
The reso guitars for some reason, outnumber about other instrument family at
these jam sessions it seems. Besides myself, there were three other players from
this list, and I think altogether, there were a total of eight reso-guitars in
all. I'm trying to remember but I recall a '75 OMI eight string Dobro, a new
Gibson Dobro, a M-A 6, a Goldtone, a McKenna, two Regals, and my DeNeve. By
comparison, I remember seeing three or four banjos, three or four fiddles, a
couple of mandolins, at least six or seven flat top guitars, and one lone
solitary uprite bass........but reso's RULE at this particular jam session.
All this on a nasty (snowing earlier) night....yep, Bluegrass (and reso-guitars)
are "alive and well" in the Boston area.......
Twangs,
Richie Chiasson
