Hi again Mike,

Your'e askin if the 5th string on your Goldtone would stand being tuned to B?
If you are useing "regular" guage strings, say .016 to .056, I don't see why
not, since the fifth string in the "normal" G tuneing is B to begin with. When I
say I've just started fooling around with that D or DADF#AD lo to hi tuning, I
mean I'm just retuning one of my Sho-Bros, (actually a round neck 14 fret to the
body instrument), to the "lesser strain" tuning. I'm trying to get accustomed to
the "looser" strings, which is about the best way I can think to describe it. My
"Sally" #1 Sho-Bro seems to LOVE this new arrangement.......<grins>. I
believe folks who play the Weisenhorn style of instruments also favor this D
tuning, correct me if I'm wrong?

What string guages do you use Mike?

At one time around here somewheres, I had a list of about 12 or 13 different
tunings that I think I got from the Hawaiian Steel Guitar's list. There are so
many MANY ways to tune a guitar when you decide to play "Hawaiian Style" which is
actually what we are doing. That was the reason for the multi necked "table
guitars" like the TRIPPLE neck Fender that Santo & Johnny used to record "Sleepwalk" back in April of
1959. (That's right from the album jacket folks, and I actually have a nice
Fender Stringmaster, same vintage, in the closet here!) A more recent example of
this would be Cindy Cashdollar's work with Asleep at the Wheel, first playing a
Fender tripple 8, and then more recently playing a Remington tripple 8.

One of the prettiest tunings if you get into this sorta thing is E 13th, altho
I've never done much messing around with this particular tuning.

So many guitars, tunings, and different WAYS to have fun,

Twangs,
Richie Chiasson
Salem, N.H.

ps, oh yeah, I've known Gerry Jean for many years, and he's a "icon" when it
comes to reso-guitars in our area. I believe Gerry is in his mid '80's.
Something to be said for "clean living" and playing resophonic guitars, huh??
