I remember that quote from Pete Seeger very clearly. I not only thought it
was cleaver and funny, but I also took it to heart.... for the longest time
I
basked in my ignorance, feeling that "playing by ear" was cool, and
macho... music theory was lame. What an idiot! It wasn't until I was
in my 50's that I finally wised up and learned the basics (not all that
much,
actually). It has helped immensely, and I could kick myself for waiting so
long.
I guess the moral is "knowing something... anything... almost never hurts,
and may help alot".
Happy Holidays, all you resomaniacs.
