Subject:Re: [RESOGUIT-L] Recommendation please (more on goldtones..)

I agree with Pete, (maple vs mahogany) although I've
only played one of the Maple models. As with any
instrument, some are some better/different than
others, too. But, I compared the maple to our mahogany
goldtone at the time and liked our mahogany model
better. The Goldtone we got sounds great. I'm still
amazed at it's sound.

Another observation. If you play hard, I think the
goldtones
sound great, as good as any reso; loud, deep bass and
an overall great sound. It seems to me that
you get the better tone/sound with the higher "cost"
instruments when you're playing soft or reaching for
a specific tone; vibrato or single note dynamic, say
on a slow, pretty tune.
My son plays a bit softer than I, when we've tried out
other instruments, and he
plays a MA beard or a Sheerhorn, and I play his
goldtone, I can still
drown him out. But, if we switch, the same holds.
Those
instruments are louder. I just play louder, more
finger pressure and bar pressure. But, in the same
respect if we play
a softer, slower tune the more expensive instruments
outshine the goldtone. But, I'm talking very small
differences when you compare the price differential.

So, if you play hard, and do alot of open stuff, you
may never be able to tell the difference. At least
not enough to warrant getting the expensive models.
But, most folks want that extra edge the high end
reso's give you. Or they just want one..lol.

I think even if you have a $2k+ reso, the goldtone
is a great instrument for taking to festival jams
so you don't damage your high $ reso.
