It was in 1973 or 74. I was attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
(ABAC) in Tifton Ga. I was into rock music then and really liked Duane Allman's
slide guitar. Earl Scruggs Revue came to Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Ga,
about 60-70 miles away. I didn't know anything about bluegrass except Dueling
Banjos from Deliverance and Foggy Mtn Breakdown from Bonnie & Clyde, but I
liked
those songs, so a buddy and I made the trip to see Earl. Uncle Josh was playing
with him at the time and when he'd take a break, it would just blow me away! I
had no idea who he was or even what instrument he was playing, but I haven't
been
the same since. When I got back to ABAC, I couldn't stop talking about that
funny-looking slide guitar thing that guy was playing. Finally a guy walked up
and said "Oh, you mean a Dobro". So, now I know what it is. :-)
