I think Jim is pretty much on track. In the Open G tuning, I try to get the
two D strings tuned to standard (440) and then tune the 2nd String to harmonize
with the 1st string and go from there.
I once had a fellow who was trying to help me tune up before a competition in
Dobro and had a really fancy and sophistated piece of electronic tuning
equipment. He became pretty upset because I couldn't accept his straight-line
tuning. No expert on this end for sure, but, I play Oz style Dobro with plenty
of slants and I don't care what the tuner says...those strings have to sound good
