There is anecdotal evidence both for and against the use of Fast Fret and
other products containing petroleum distillates. I suspect when people do
run into problems it is mostly because of over application. One fact I
learned the hard way--a single application of Fast Fret will permanently
darken a light-colored fingerboard.

I don't want to sound like a commercial for the DR product. In fact after
years of taking bad advice regarding fingerboard treatments I've become very
reluctant to use anything. It does seem that DR Stringlife does pretty much
the same thing as Fast Fret, in that it will also revive a set of older
strings.
