I can think of at least four cover plate designs for comparison.
The standard 3 row pattern, the older 4 row pattern (although
the openings were smaller) the lyre pattern, and the poinsetta.
Some of the off brands also had thier own design.
Lets fasten each one to the end of a 55 gallon drum open on
the opposite end, and see how long it takes water to drain through.
Pretty low tech. Jim Warren
