Why not get both then?  Check out Janet Davis' at http://www.banjostore.com/ 
For just a few bucks more than your $600 limit you can get the new Regal 
RD-40 in both square neck and round neck. They're the same size so you would 
only need one case.   Since you are not in a position to get out there and 
play them if you call her she or one of her staff will play them for you. 
At least you can hear what they sound like.
 No financial interest in Janet Davis music just a very satisfied customer.
