Hi, Mark;
I wish I'd asked such an intelligent question before I bought my first
resonator. If you do decide to get just one, Mark, I'd go with a square
neck. You can do all of the stuff you do now on a regular guitar. The idea
of getting a resonator is to get into something new. I bought my first
resonator recently, a metal bodied round neck. I put the nut extender on it
an play it lap style now. I bought a round neck so that I could use it for
both my old styles and standard reso bluegrass, which is a new style of
playing to me. I thought I'd be taking the nut extender on and off as
needed to go back and forth between styles on it, but I've never taken the
nut extender off. I don't hate my metal body, but I should have just gotten
a wood bodied square neck in the first place.
I'm a newbie, so take my opinion for what it's worth. The question you
asked will draw advice from people who are really experts on this list. You
definately asked the right question at the right place.
