I've been to 4 of the kamps for flatpicking guitar. Last year was the
first year for reso. While not cheap, I think the benefits outweigh
the cost.
The school is held at Maryville College. Dorm rooms are about what you
would expect (not great) - you can stay off campus but I think you
would lose a lot of being around your fellow student. Meals are held
in the school cafeteria and were really pretty good. Classes are
morning with one instructor and afternoons with another, covering
different subjects. That happens everyday all week except for
Wednesday afternoon which is a off time to do whatever you want. The
nightly concerts are for the most part done by the instructors and are
GREAT and the jams with fellow students are GREAT. You can jam if you
want or just walk around the campus listing to different jams. You get
a kamp book with each instructors class topic and notes and space to
make your own notes. I found I worked on the stuff I "learned" that
week, all year long.
One warning though, stay away from the Kamp Store, you'll go broke.
Instructors have CD's, learning materials, and Steve has all of his
stuff on sale.
It is a no pressure kamp, you can be as involved as you want to be.
I guess you can tell I liked it, I'd go very year if I live closer.
