I dreamed I was in Portland, Oregon, at the RiverCity Bluegrass Festival. I
was in a reso workshop given by the extremely talented and congenial Orville
Johnson. It was great and I learned a lot. Toward the end of the workshop,
Orville called to a gentleman at the rear of the room and invited him to
come to the front. It was non other than Jerry Douglas with a brand new
Beard reso. I rubbed my eyes, but when I opened them, he was still there. It
had to be a dream. Then the two of them played a piece together while the
rest of us drooled on ourselves. Wow!
My dream rambled through several bluegrass acts after that workshop, all of
which were very good. But I knew for sure I was dreaming when Jerry Douglas
appeared on the main stage with the following line-up: J.D. Crowe (banjo),
Sam Bush (mandolin), Dan Tyminski (guitar), Barry Bales (bass), and Stuart
Duncan (fiddle). Talk about a bluegrass dream band! I donšt know who had
more fun: the audience or the entertainers, but you could really feel the
love.
Then I dreamed I went home and to bed. When I awoke, I realized it must have
been a dream. But I still canšt explain the ink stamp on my hand...
