Dewey, great post, n logical even to the non scientists among us (me).
Still, SOME open can be good, look what's happened to the shorter tail piece
opening up the bottom of the cover plate-
I really like your analogy of 'moving air' as applied to both cone/cavity issues
as well as applied to coverplate issues.
Again, great post (I like the treble range thing being top of cone to bottom of
coverplate, really helps to think about what to try and change to get a desired
effect, etc.).
