[RESOGUIT-L] First Resonator Guitar Date: Mon, 9 Jan 2006 13:24:52 -0500 Hey,
Mark
I rarely participate in these type discussions. But let me solve your
problem... Get a Paul Beard Goldtone, the Mahogony (less expensive model). Buy it
from Paul directly, so you get the best setup money can buy. I think it's the
best sounding one, even though it's the cheapest, and for my money, it's clearly
the best looking. Try to keep it in mint condition. If you decide you don't like
it, my guess is it'll be because you don't bond with dobros in general. In that
case, I doubt that you would have much trouble getting all or most of your
money back for it. If you do really get into dobro,
you probably won't "grow out" of this instrument nearly as fast as one of the
other inexpensive brands. I play out a fair amount and I wouldn't have any
problem taking one of these on stage... for it's looks or it's sound (especially
if it was set up by Paul).
That's my advice... but then again, I'm known as one
of the biggest crackpots on the list, so take it for what it's worth.
