I'm with Unc here. I have a VS-1 and it is great. As they advertise,
it is easier for the eye to detect small movements of the strobe
bars, than the position of a needle and much-much more accurate than
a bunch of leds. And also you can set it for the -12 cents on the
B's, +2 cents on the D's tuning. This is impossible on an
Intellitouch and a Sabine or any of that ilk, although Mike Auldridge
uses a Sabine and has learned just the frequency of light beats that
detune the B's properly - but that is Saint Mike.
The new Vs-II has a brighter display and, as a potential benefit for
8-string players, built in temperaments for Pedal Steel tunings. I
want one of those, so I keep dropping my VS-1, but the thing don't break.
To words of warning, (1) they are expensive (about $200) but well
worth it, (2) now if I play out of tune, it is my fault.

P.S. I own and particularly do not like an Intellitouch. I dislike
the fact that they give no indication when they stop registering,
leading one to overshoot the tuning of a string before you realize
that the tuner is ignoring you. As some people swear by them, I get
the impression that they are very variable. I bought mine for $20
from someone swearing at it and I suspect I might have gotten a bad one.
