Awww fellas, ok I'll be serious. Most of the banjo players in my area, well
I've really never seen them use tuners, hey maybe I just never noticed. (At my
age this is quite possible). Now just for a second here, compare the two
instruments, the ohhhh so slender necked banjo with the thin strings, the drum
head, (that head HAS to be affected by temperature & humidity, I'd think), and you've got an instrument that on it's best day, has to be tempermental with regards to staying in tune, to say the least. Compare this to a reso-guitar with it's heavy strings, the heavier constuction, the 2 x 4 neck, (for us slider types), and it's like compareing a golf cart to a Peterbuilt 18 wheeler! I would guess that of all the bluegrass instruments, (and I'm told reso-guitar is still trying to gain acceptance in some circles), the "dobro" or reso-guitar would
be the LEAST LIKELY to go out of tune!
Ok I've said my piece and I'll shut up (grinning) for now! Let the tuner
discussion resume, and I'll keep a closer watch to see if any of my banjo buddies
use them! By the way I have a couple of Intelitouch tuners.....(fussy things
arent they?), and my two "working guitars" have Sabine tuners attached to the
cover plates with double faced tape. Works for me!
Richie
ps, have I mentioned how much information you all contribute to this list? I've
learned so much from you all and I thank you! By the way, I've NEVER played
banjo! There's enough grief & pain in the world without Richie with a banjo!
