Mr. Deneve, nicely put.
About the stretch of the strings. I have a git buddy at fests I frequent and he
took me under his wing when I first went reso, and showed me exactly what you
posted.
You break that elasticity down, and let it all settle!
And, I surely take to heart, your thought about tuning by ear.
It's takin me a LONG time to develop an ear, both for what I THINK is right, and
most importantly, to tell if someone else is NOT right!!!!
I now have 'barely' enuff ear, to use my tuner, and feel good about my reso
'holdin' the notes.
N now, when I'm right, I know it, for hours (fest/jams).
N when someone else is off, I no longer tune to them, unless it's the easier
choice at the moment. ;-)
To any of those who are rookies, hang in there, it takes time, but, if ya do it
for a few years, it gets easier, it gets better, and well, it gets better!!!
<grin>
Thanks to my local teach whom I saw recently after a LONG hiatus, cuz I had NO
clue, I now 'see' the barest glimmers of the 'box it up' scales and notes on that
fretboard.
Heffernan is right on and all OVER that stuff, as is my local teach.
It gets better, after the humility!!!! DO IT ROOKIES!!!! <smile>
