Yup!! That's the one...
If I keep my hot rodded Regal that's the tail piece I want to put on it.
As you may remember I did the maple and ebony bridge insert, then the Beard
bone nut both of which really improved the tone and volume. But it was
still "stifled" I took it apart again this last week and re-did the set up
according to Paul Beard's video.. Sanded and leveled the Spider and the
cone... ah there was the rub..... The Quarterman cone was binding... It
wouldn't just slip out or rotate...So I took a deep breath and with a
scissors in hand I carefully trimmed the edges of the cone till it easily
slipped in and out and rested on the soundwell. Put all back together and
WOW!! That was IT..... It really opened up!! The shorter tail piece would
uncover the back end of the plate and open it up a bit more.
It still can't hold a candle to my F-60 though and that's the thing. Since
the Gibson came into the house the Regal just sort of sits there. So spend
another, what? 90 bucks for a really good sounding reso that's not going to
get played regularly? Or let it go to someone that needs a really good
sounding guitar for much less than 4 figures.
*sigh* decisions, decisions.

Wayne, you GOT to check these out by Randy Allen:

http://www.allenguitar.com/DOBRO.HTM

I've seen them on gits, I've HEARD them on gits.

1) They UN-expose the cover plate hole down there
2) They are shorter, meanin more string to vibrate behind the bridge
3) They are denser, meanin they do something a luthier in here will tell ya
that does, cuz I forgot . . . DOH!!!

It's $90 or so for one, but hoss, I'm gettin one for my Johnson, and another
one for my new Beard GT, which I ain't even got yet.

"-I'm not a luthier, and I don't even play one on the raydeo"
