Matthew Snook <matt@snooksband.com> refers to:
"recording of Tim O'Brien's called Restless Spirit Wandering on his Traveler
CD" featuring "a kind of sizzle that over-rides the typical resonator sound."
=> I don't have that particular Timmo CD, but I think I know what you're talking
about.
Jerry played here live with AKUS last summer, and he had a kind of sizzle on
the treble strings on some of the instrumentals. I wondered about it myself at
the time, and wished I knew how to get it.
I figured it was probably some kind of programmable EQ configuration. From
where I was sitting in the cheap seats, I could hardly see Jerry himself, let
alone what kind of boxes were on the floor. What would it be? A boost at about
6-8K? I have no idea.
Anyway, I have no insight to contribute, except that I think he gets the same
thing with live sound reinforcement. If you figure it out, I'd like to know
myself.
P.S. "Timmo" comes from a remark Nick Forster made years ago during a Hot Rize
set. Nick introduced Tim and remarked "Here's Tim O'Brien. A lot of folks
actually think his first name is Timmo." That one had me rolling in the
sawdust.
