==>The Flinthill, in its day, was certainly one of
the best constructed asian imports and it took
to the upgrade quite well. Other guitars that
did fine were the Regal RD-45 and 52 "Black
Lightning" (yep, I know it has a QCone). There
were several issues with the Flinthill that Paul
took issue with.
1. The body style/shape was neither fish nor fowl
(Dobro(tm) or Regal) and Paul wanted a shape that
looked like a traditional resonator.
2. Cost
3. Internal design. There was a huge benefit to
exporting the internals from the R and Vintage
models to an asian guitar. The open soundwell was
something that he wanted to offer and the an
overall design that was recognizably "Beard" was
thought to be a good thing.
BTW...Got a "Kay" in the shop for an upgrade. It
is a rebadged Flinthill and not a bad knockoff!!
