Hey Richie,
Wish I coulda been there. I met Sky a few months back when a local fella
hot-rodded my Regal. We set around and picked a while. The man certainly
knows his way around a dobro neck. If you get a chance, pick up a copy of
Gene Moore's CD. Sky does the dobro work on it.
I gotta get up your way a bit more. My regular Wednesday jam has 3 banjos
and only me on dobro. I can only shuck so much corn.
Best,
Dan in RI
Have steel, will slide.

EVERYBODY groaned.....I swear. There was one bass, one mando, two guitars,
two banjos, and "Blackie DeNeve" and me, brought the reso count up to
FIVE!!!! I think the only two missing were Poob, and Adriel, (hope I'm
spelling your name correctly Adriel?) One of our "local legends" Sky Travis
was there with a beautiful "fiddle edge" metal bodied Dobro, from.....I
dunno.....I'd guess the late 20's or very early 30's. I've seen this guitar
in the past, and it's got some kinda Hawaiian bathing beauty coming outa the
surf, engraved on it's back. The sound holes had little "crosses" in them!
There's a picture of a similar instrument in Bobby Wolfe's book, "The
Resophonic and the Pickers" on pg. 11. Sky's nephew Kenny Brilliante was
there with a very nice wooden bodied Dobro from the 30's that Sky said had
the short spider on a lug cone. My buddy & fellow lister Andy Katz was
sitting between these two with his recently refurbished Hall, and Andy said
he was in "reso-heaven"! There was a Pierce, and then my
DeNeve.....lemmetellya folks........them two banjos......they never had a
chance!
