Hi, all,
New guy here, been lurking for about a week, ever since I ordered my
first dobro. It arrived on Friday, and it is at least as much fun as
I had suspected it would be. I have a few new guy questions, and if
there is a FAQ somewhere that answers them, please direct me there.
Otherwise:
1. What is the generally accepted position of the right hand? I'm
finding I like to rest it on the arch above the bridge, but I don't
want to develop a bad habit, so if this is a real no-no, please
correct me now!
2. The spider is not quite squarely in the hole, that is, it is not
exactly at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. That would seem to lead to
intonation problems. Right or wrong? And if I am right, should I
attempt this fix myself, or is that the ultimate new guy disaster?
3. And why exactly are there screens over the sound holes? Is that
just tradition? I mean, there are three smaller wide open holes there
anyway, so junk is going to get in.
4. What's the best instructional DVD for someone who is not exactly
at ground zero (I've played guitar for 30 years) but is at ground
one, if you get my drift. The instrument came with a book of basics,
so I get the roll, holding the bar, etc. I don't need the baby steps,
but what's good for a toddler?
That's all for now. Thanks in advance.
Steve
