For those of you into vintage instruments, there is a 1935, M-32 model Dobro on
Ebay. Back then Dobro made spider-cone guitars in both brass and steel. While the
brass models were more expensive, the steel ones had the reputation for the most
power and sustain. There is no modern equivalent for these. In recent times Dobro
made spider-cone metal bodies, but only in brass. Guitars of this vintage with
square necks are pretty scarce. Typically, the tuners and tailpiece have been
replaced, but the owner has the originals. Right now the bid is very reasonable.
If you favor function over form, a modern cone and setup might turn this into a
prize.
