Interesting discussion over on BGRASS-L going on, concerning the rattlesnake
rattle that Bill Monroe kept in his mandolin -- a dsicussion which, if I know
anything about BGRASS-L, will soon segue into "Name every fiddler who ever put
a rattle in his fiddle."
But what's really interesting is that we coneheads will spend dozens of hours,
plus hundreds of bucks on setup invoices, just to get RID of a buzz or a
rattle. And here these guys are tryin' to put 'em in!
I swan.... De gustibus something or other.
Of course, this can be a good thing with certain kinds of instruments. Many
banjo pickers forget to cut the remainder of the rattlesnake off, which is
fortunate, otherwise we'd see a lot more banjo pickers around.
