Hi Wayne and fellow listers,
Wow Wayne, that's some collection your teacher, Carrol Parnham, has of Shot's
instruments! As many of the listers, especially on the "right coast" know, I
have four of Shot's guitars all in decent condition, and all are magnificent
instruments in their own right. All of mine are six string instruments and I
have two round neck, 14 frets to the body instruments, and two square neck
guitars, with the white fretboards with the "deck of cards" fret markers. I
absolutely LOVE those fretboards!
Didn't someone on this list comment recently on seeing a Scheerhorn (was it
owned/played by Rob Ickes?) with an extended fretboard that "went right up to the
coverplate" was if I remember right, the comment that was made? Shot's "card
symbol" fretboards all had TWENTY FOUR frets or two full octaves, like the Steel
Guitar fretboards have. The last Sho-Bro I bought is an "open body" instrument
with sound posts, instead of a soundwell. I've replaced those metal nuts Wayne
mentioned, and the old stamped cones as well, but of course all of my Sho-Bros
had previous "work" done, (and many times) long before I acquired them.
I'll join Larue in wishing you all a Happy July 4th, with lots of reso-picking
and good food and beverages included.
Twangs!!!
