Wow! I got a chance to see Rob Ickes play last night. It was very
inspiring. (I'm new to the dobro and taking lessons.)
Rob was playing with this banjo guy, Earl somebody. The opening band was
a local Boulder Colorado band, Hot something. They were all pretty good
too! ;-)
(Actually, Brian Sutton stole the show from Earl Scruggs. Every one of
Brian's breaks was unbelievable. Sutton played in both Earl's band and
Hot Rize. When performing with Hot Rize, his style was very close to
Charles Sawtelle.)
Rob's breaks were beautiful, but there weren't enough of them! The
evening performance will be broadcast on the radio show eTown (see
www.etown.org <http://www.etown.org/> ) later this year. If anyone is
interested, I'll forward the broadcast dates. Many of the radio stations
stream over the internet.
