I recently had an Asian reso apart that had too much wood extending over the soundwell. The opening was out of round by a half inch and the wood touched the taper of the cone in two places. This deadened the volume 25 or 30 per cent. It is also important that the surface the cone rests on is level or the cone will be stressed and can't viberate properly. My .02
