Yes, we're in the middle of putting on our festival, and I have many
things to do between now (6:35 am) and when Lighthouse takes the stage
at 9am, with Kim Weeks on the dobro, but I can't resist sharing a few
highlights:
First: we ended last night with Blue Highway, the Infamous
Stringdusters, plus Sean and Sara Watkins and Michael Witcher on stage
together for a several-song jam. Triple dobros with Rob Ickes, Andy
Hall and Michael Witcher.
Second: a great dobro workshop with Rob, Andy and Michael playing on
the porch of and old Farmhouse, where a bunch of dobro geeks pulled
their chairs right up to their feet, to crowd into a little strip of
shade. Yes, there were lots of shaded tables and chairs in the
audience area, but those were all of 6 feet away, much too far for
quality viewing, apparently... Triple dobro versions of Monrobro,
Reuben, Old Dangerfield, Fireball Mail.
Not to mention great sets by Blue Highway, the Infamous Stringdusters,
Michael Witcher backing up a great vocalist (Sheri Lee).
Wolfgang, here from Germany to pick up his wonderful new Scheerhorn,
got to play a guest tune with Chris Stuart and Backcountry.
And here's a magic moment from Friday night: The Stringdusters were
on stage on a cool, star-lit night, with Jeremy Garrett singing a
murder song. At the exact moment he sang the the words "a silver
star", a shooting star appeared high in the sky and fell almost
vertically, tracing an arc all the way down along the edge of the
stage. The audience collectively and very audibly gasped.
Today: a raffle drawing of a beautiful Wechter-Scheerhorn resonator
guitar, and lots more dobro on stage.
Hey, I told you guys to come out here...
Betty
