THEY said, heck, SOMEONE said:

>How I came to the resonator guitar- One tune, one man. The
>Dobro(tm) break on the Seldom Scene's version of "Keep Me From
>Blowing Away". I had _no_ idea what I was listening to! I just had
>to find out.

I saw this one coming

********************************

This post, and others, reminded me of a way back then thing.

N I thought of that time I was in a record store, San Mateo, CA (where pickers
don't grow on ANY street corner) about '74 or so, cuz I was trippin on Doc Watson
n Norman Blake plattop pickin licks (since about '70) and lookin for more of his
stuff, and all kinds of things I had just learnt of in a few short years.

N I saw 'Tennessee Stud' on an album . . . . n I brought it home. Shiny red
cover, with a big ole dobro on it (I hardly knew what it was), n then, I found
out, the album was mostly instrumental.

And it just blew me away. I wore it out. I stole GreenSleeves to play on the
Appalachian Dulcimer I had. I made it rock, and pissed off a lot of people when I
played it. But then, I was also playing Sweet Georgia Brown on that dulcimer with
a hep cat jazz git roommate. I LIKED to rock. <smile>

N Tennessee Stud, and Greensleeves, and the rest of that album moved me in ways
that still get to me, and shape what I do and learn every time I pick up my reso
to pick to a cd . . . .

Thanks, St. Mike.

I got some Tut, n some Josh, n Norman's reso memories from Red White N Bluegrass
too, other vinyl . . . . .

Man, when I think back to how excited I was when I was young and first hearing
that music, and excited to hear some real fast playing, all them instruments, the
solos, the voices n harmonies, I still get a shiver.

And to this day, the old stuff still gets me that way. N the new stuff, well, I
get a shiver when it gets to me. Just like then.

Man, ain't that enuff to make a person smile when they is bored a bit. <grin>
