Lee Moore 9-24-1914 - 8-17-1997
>I think he passed away in the late 90s.
>Not sure if anyone remembers him, but he
>was a radio disc jockey on Wheeling West Virginia's
>WWVA program long ago.
I remember him well. He was quite the charactor.
He was a practical joker as well as an entertainer.
I was ready to hit the stage one time, and I turned
around to grab my Dobro, and it had disappeared.
My heart came up in my mouth until I saw Lee peeking
out from behind his car with it.
He also used to make up personalized tapes of his
music for people for a nominal fee, where he would
play his guitar, sing, and converse with you between
songs.
He made me up a couple one time as a joke, on how
to play the Dobro. He starts out telling how to hold the
bar, and put on the picks, Then he says " Now Jim, if
you listen close to old Lee Moore, maybe , just maybe,
someday you will be able to play like me". He really was
a funny guy.
>There was a little dobro
>flyer called "the dobro nut" in my scrapbook with him
>on the cover and 2 round neck sho-bro guitars of his.
>He had them both setup as guitars, not resos.
>But, I think he did play reso stuff some, too.
He did have a Sho-Bro squareneck which he would
alternate playing with a regular flat-top guitar. He would
accompany himself strumming chords on the Sho-Bro, and
play some lead with it in between verses.
>I think Beverly King put out the "dobro nut" booklet.
>That's the only one I have though. It was
>a pretty neat little paper/magazine.
Yes it was. I have the whole collection of these. The name
was changed after a time to "Resophonic Echoes", and a
few years later to "Country Heritage"
Bev was also a friend of Lee.
I have an obituary that I can send off list to anyone who
would like it. Jim Warren
