The problem with this (as someone who does studio and live sound) is that
you are assuming the experience of the engineer. The better way to go is to
play realistically what your volume level will be and maybe push it a bit.
The best way to deal with an inexperienced engineer is to have someone who
knows sound in the audience at sound check. Mainly due to the fact that you
can't tell anything from the stage. Additionally, communicate with the
engineer and above all be nice. Experienced or not the engineer holds the
power to make you sound like manure.
