That's Pete Drake. Early legend on pedal steel, who appears (to someone who
only knew of him through the hindsight of history) to have stopped innovating
and whose playing rapidly became dated and so fell out of favor. He helped
write a lot of the standard cliches all of us pedalmashers use, but then
apparently didn't develop beyond them; unless he managed to end his career by
having/being an unpleasant character, this has doomed others (can you say "Buddy
Cage"?)
