Greg McKenna now has dobro kits for sale. Go to his web site and scroll down to
the bottom. These look interesting, and they're a little different from kits
that have been offered previously by Stew-Mac and others. For one thing, the
body comes mostly assembled (with soundwell and binding already installed), but
with the neck variably finished out according to the buyer's preference. And
these come without hardware (no cone, spider, coverplate, etc.).
This seems like a good approach -- most of the heavy lifting is already done for
the purchaser, and you can install either import or high-grade metal parts as
your budget allows.
No dobro content, but: if you're looking for some great hardcore bluegrass, I
just finished listening to Audie Blaylock's "Trains Are the Only Way to Fly."
I've known about this CD for some time, but only got around to buying it
recently. This is the *real stuff* -- you know, the kind they only keep behind
the counter.
Now listening to Ivan Guernsey with Storefront Congregation...

I was going to buy the whole kit and caboodle, but I couldn't figure out what a
"caboodle' was.
