So, all you need is another spider and set of
bridges and you'd have a spare setup to drop
in. I think that's a great idea...for what it costs.
I had to take my son's Gold Tone apart the other
night, and literally it was just because in the year?
or so he's had it, due to the amount of playing
the bridge groove on the first string had chipped.
And everytime he'd get on the first string hard, it
would pop out. Everything else was fine (a bit
dirty in there...but it still sounded good).
I was wishing I had a spare setup (cone and spider) I
could have dropped in place. I would have done it
weeks ago, because I never had time to regroove the
string notches on the bridge till the other night.
Pulling the cover plate and dropping another
cone/spider in is a fairly quick process.
Having to work on the bridge inserts till you're
satisfied they're "fixed" isn't.
I tried using the quarterman (cone/spider) from my
old dobro (who's neck is broken)...and unfortunately
the bridge inserts were too low (or just lower). So, I
didn't go that route.
