Subject:[RESOGUIT-L] Messages from Dopyeras
Date:Monday, September 18, 2006  08:48:10 (-0400)
From:John E. Dopyera <dopyera @........com>

Thanks, Greg Tucker-Kellogg, for bringing the collection of John and Rudy
Dopyera to the attention of Resoguit folks: http://www.elderly.com/articles/dopyera The collection is still
available through Elderly.

A bit of explanation - When Rudy Dopyera died in 1978 he left his experimental
instruments to his brother John. John Dopyera, before he died, requested that his
and Rudy's instruments be sold to create a financial inheritance for his
grandchildren. He also requested that efforts be made to create a museum exhibit.
These instruments and other memorabilia have been exhibited in Syracuse, New York
in 1988 and by the 197 Erie Art Museum show " Loud and Clear: Resonator Guitars
and the Dopyera Brothers' Legacy to American Music." This latter exhibit also
traveled to a number of different locations. In addition, the museum in Trnava,
Slovakia has a permanent exhibit of resonator instruments and family
memorabilia. For example, Jerry Douglas, as well as others, have donated
instruments and photographs.

The family would be delighted if the instruments available for sale through
Elderly, as well as shop equipment and materials, could become a permanent museum
exhibit. Thanks, Greg, and others for spreading the word.

On another matter, through the research efforts of Randy Getz and Bobby Wolfe, I
have recently become aware that some folks may have the original and incomplete
version of my book "My Life as a Dopyera" which has at least one inaccuracy that
was fixed in the final version - Ed died in 1977, not 1978. The final version
also has more information than the original. If you own a copy of "My Life as a
Dopyera" which has fewer than 84 pages before the References and Chronology
sections, contact us off list - dopyera@twcny.rr.com or mlay@twcny.rr.com , send
us your original version and, at no cost to you, I will send you a free
replacement.

Thanks,
Margaret Lay-Dopyera
