Hi everyone,
Those of you who've met me, know what pure fun I am having with this wonderful
instrument / obsession we know as resophonic guitar. I am just having so much
fun, and to the best of my knowledge I try to share this, as much as I can, with
any and all who'll listen to me.
With the little regional band I'm fortunate to be part of, I've had a wonderful
2006 Bluegrass season in my part of the country, starting with us being booked at
the Boston Bluegrass Union's Joe Val Festival, and ending up at Thomas Point
Beach, with many many wonderful smaller festivals in between! Shameless self
promotion aside, if you check out www.pinehillramblers.com and go to our
scheduel, you'll see what I mean.
I'm here to tell you tho, that last weekend, really "put the frosting on the
cake!" for me! I just came back from spending a weekend playing music, (trying
to play from my standpoint) with Jr. Barber and his cousin Tom Venne.
Folks, I have seen "Beartracks Headquarters"!!! I've played music with Jr. & Tom on their river bank and I've been fed both Tuna Steak and
"Steak"-steak along with potatos right from Tom's garden! I'll tell you it
just doesn't get much better than this....
And Tom is crazier than me!! After Jr. would leave, usually at a sensible hour,
Tom would ask me, "Hey Richie, wanna play a few more?" and off we'd go till
midnight and beyond.......omg what pure fun!
Tom and his sister Julie (who was being "Soccer-Mom" all weekend, and missed out
on our musical fun), grew up in a musical family. Their Dad had his own band,
I'm sorry I didn't get the name of it, but they evidently played Country Music in
their part of upstate N.Y. for years. One night, Tom's Mom came over .....a tiny
woman, carrying this huge Accordian......and we played till Lord knows when, the
three of us.
I know both Junior Barber and his cousin Tom Venne both monitor this list, (Tom
gets a kick out of us "coneheads"), and I wanted to take this moment to say a
heartfelt "Thank You" to a couple of great guys for one helluva weekend for yours
truly......
I'll go and restring all of my guitars now......whew!
Twangs,
Richie Chiasson
