Why not get your own mic and learn how to work with it to get the sound you
want? The AKG C1000s is reasonably priced and sounds good with dobro.
Since you asked about preamps, you might take a look at the LR Baggs Para DI
and the ART Tube MP. What type of pickup do you have installed?
