Hey Steve,
Never too early to start thinking about Joe Val Festival. I'm still not
completely recoverd from Thomas Point Beach! And a recent visit to "Beartracks
Headquarters" was the cherry on the sundae for my '06 bluegrass season, wow!
I recently acquired a nice clean round neck 14 frets to the body Johnson the
other night. After I put a nut extender and a new set of strings on it, and did
a little tweaking, it's really not that awful a guitar.......(considering what I
paid for it). Should be fun, as time permits, to "upgrade" the thing with a
decent spider, cone, etc. That black spider with the round discs at the ends of
the legs....yuck! The bridge inserts are tiny, with the strings barely clearing
the top of the spider....but of course when you think of it, a round neck Spanish
type guitar, you'd want the action as low as possible. Our (most of us) style of
Hawaiian Slide playing, you'd want the bridge inserts as high as possible because
our "action" is completely different from those who play with their fingers.
So many variables huh? Makes me respect those of you who actually build these
things all the more!
Twangs,
Richie
