Opps, sorry Gang, previous post scrolled forever to the right.
Been lurking for awhile but decided to jump in... the window of opportunity is
closing on the chance to capture this collection to be enjoyed by the next
wave(s) of resonator type instrument pickers. Maybe it's already been discussed
and discarded, but it would seem like a few motivated folks who knows the proper
moves could establish a 'foundation' and collect enough funds from the reso
community to capture this collection. Through donations we would all be
'owners'
and founding members. Doesn't seem like the Smithsonian is very interested in
this...and if the Enola Gay bomber is an example, might be stuck in a warehouse
for 50 years. It would require approaching Elderly Music with a proposal of some
early money on the table to secure an 'option' for a certain length of time to
hit the agreed purchase price. Some agreed use of the collected money if the
target isn't hit on time...etc., etc. A website would need to be established to
communicate the activity, contact info, etc. Once it gets sold off we'll all be
gray hairs (more grayed hair) sitting around bemoaning the fact that we 'coulda
shoulda'. Having said that, I wouldn't be the right person to lead the effort,
but would be first in line to donate money.
