You really ought to be prepping and breaking in at least one backup set.
Buy a set of National NP2's and take the time to shape them *exactly* the
same as your favorite picks. Play and adjust until you find that familiar
feel and sound. It can take weeks but if you keep at it you will get to the
point where it is hard to tell them from your favorites.
BTW, the cobalt-plated Shelors are almost too slick.
I put a fresh coating of Gorilla Snot on my picks a few hours before a
gig... no way I'm losing a pick--I can barely pry them off after the set.
