Subject:Re: [RESOGUIT-L] Scheerhorn Capo vs Beard Capo

Yep, I agree with Lane, but the last time I was messing with my 8 str. which I
do all too infrequently, I was having trouble somehow, getting the Beard in
between the strings, in order to "twist it" 90 degrees, into it's operating
position. My DeNeve capo seems to work fine on my 8 string guitar and again, you
don't have the potential for the capo coming apart, because the DeNeve uses a
"cam-lever" device, instead of that knurled nut-bolt design of the Beard.

Getting old and shaky I guess? The "old" is unavoidable, (glad and havin' fun
being here, lol), and the "shaky" adds to the reso-playing on the ol timey
stuff.......grins.

Eight string reso guitars are GREAT fun, and really lend themselves to "swing"
tunes. Unfortunately for "Dolly" ( a '75 OMI instrument, and the only "real"
Dobro I own,) my current band does "traditional" bluegrass and they don't feel
that poor old "Dolly" fits in, as well as her 6 string "sisters" do. You can get
a feel for 8 string by raising (very carefully) your fourth string from a D note
up a whole tone to a E note, so now, from 1 to 6 you'll have DBG*E*BG to get
some idea of what a 8 string player has to "mess" with. I do not recommend this
however with old strings! My DeNeve doesn't seem to mind this, but my Sho-Bros
with their old fashioned larger peg heads, the string angle from the nut to the
tuning peg being greater, you can SNAP that string.....so I don't recommend this
unless you have extra fourth strings, etc. Caution is the watchword here folks

Twangs.......either 6 or 8 string, oh and "your string mileage may vary"
certainly applies.......
