If you've got the dexterity to do it, great. I saw Rich Arnold at
IBMA this past week...he uses three fingers plus a thumb, and always
has as far as I know. Rich also only uses plastic picks. He's
working on a jazz CD which should be out soon, so look for it.
Also ran into a guy (Rick something?) from Birmingham who uses a
thumb, middle and ring finger only - still just three picking fingers,
he's just skipping the index. Reason for this is that he's played
Tele for years using a flat pick and the middle and ring
fingers...when he took up the 'bro a couple years ago, he already had
the middle/ring thing down, so just went with it.
Both of these guys are incredibly fast pickers FWIW.
