Thanks for the reply. This is the first negative feeling about using the
third finger pick. I would imagine that learning to play with the third
finger will mean extra work setting up tablature for the extra finger. I'm
hoping that the results will be worth the effort. At this time using the 3
fingers seems very normal, but I have along way to go.
I play many Irish tunes by ear, but only when I know the melody, perhaps the
Dobro will allow this also.

I could be wrong, but I think I have heard Pete Reichwein express some
regret about using the extra pick, and spending a lot of time and
effort going down that path. Would be nice to hear him on this topic,
because he would have a carefully thought-out basis for his current
opinion (whatever it is), but I don't know if he's reading the list
these days.
