I reported a month so ago that the current issue (September/October) of
Flatpicking Guitar Magazine would be the special "Women in Flatpicking" issue,
and now it's out. I picked up a copy at IBMA. I mention this because two of the
flatpickers biographed therein also play dobro: Wanda Vick (page 20) and our
very own Kathy Barwick (page 52). Order a copy online from the Flatpicker's
Mercantile. The articles are nice long, detailed ones, not short puff pieces.
It's worth it just for the article on Rebecca Hoggan (now Frazier). She doesn't
play dobro. but if she did, look out! A resplendant musician, she is.
Also spotted jamming in the vendors' area at IBMA: Tuck Tucker. I didn't get a
chance to talk to him, but he's a monster picker, too. I've heard some mention
of him before, but don't know much about him. Maybe Lee or somebody else can
fill us in?
