I've been tracking this thread for awhile and thought it would play itself out,
but need to throw an observation into the mix. I've been using Amazing
Slowdowner for years and wouldn't change. Everyone is talking about all the
alternate ways to 'slow the music down' but the requirements go a lot further
than that. Side note: At about 1/2 the cost of one lesson from one of the 'short
list' reso professionals, you can buy this software. I've used it for about 4
years and am amazed (pun intended) that Roni...the designer...feels the
obligation to continually build more functionality into it. Free to download if
you have the system. He can't be getting rich off this venture. On the
software, beyond the slowing down element, he has included multiple options for
sampling the tune (increasing the resolution), equilizing out the bulk of the
other instruments, stereo on the chance one channel contains the bulk of the
dobro content, etc. Point being that I've heard other slow down applications
that have so much mush at a significant slow down rate that you can't detect the
dobro. The MAIN benefit of Amazing is that, right in the middle of a blistering
lick, you can hit the 'H' key and lock on one note...it will keep repeating as
long as you want...then by using the left or right arrow key it will go to the
next note and keep repeating it. Try isolating just one note on a loop and
you'll appreciate this functionality. To quote my old Grandpa "sometimes you
can't afford FREE"... in this case, I'd strongly suggest you pay Roni the nominal
amount for the software and consider it a dobro lesson.
