I have a coveted pre-release :)
John Starling and Carolina Star, "Slidin' Home"
This is 3/5 of the original Seldom Scene
(Starling/Gray/Auldridge) w/ Jimmy Gaudreau, Rickie Simpkins and
several guests including Emmylou Harris (ahhhhhhhh....Emmylou).
If you are not aware, this band is Emmylou's "backup" band on her
bluegrass tour.
The CD is scary good and very modern and edgy at times.
Of particular interest to this list is that Mike Auldridge just
explodes on this project playing resonator guitar, Weissenborn
and lap steel. A lot of attitude and even a bit of real "nasty".
Just turn down the bass on your stereo. When Mike lays into
that 6th string all hell's gonna break loose! I don't care what
anyone says...No one sounds like Mike Auldridge. You can
occasionally confuse some of the younger players, but, no one has
managed to come close to the Mike sound (IMHO).
Produced by John Starling and the great George Massenburg
Engineered by George Massenburg
Recorded at Blackbird Studios Nashville, Wally Cleaver's and Bias
Recording in VA
Mastered by Bill Wolf for Wolf Productions in VA
This will be released by Rebel Records (REB-CD-1820) sometime
early in 2007.
