It's also not a reso and it's only 6 string, but I use a Martin backpacker steel
string w/pickup, with the metal nut-riser...
It actually sounds pretty good, it's fairly loud even without being plugged
into an amp, and it's small enough to fit in the back of my MINI Cooper S with
my travel banjos. For playing it probably fits best on a lap, but it also
works
well enough standing once I get my hands used to the different position.
And of course I can pull the metal nut-riser out and use this as a regular
guitar.
Now, how to add 2 strings, that's a problem...
