Just a quick note speaking as a veteran of local television
production. Few, if any, local shows had the time, equipment or staff
to produce live music (particularly as a segment of a talk show). It
was much easier (and acceptable at the time) to play the record and hope
the singer/band could sync.
I was directing a top notch local program for a major public station...
ninety minute program three hours in the studio. We did music live,
even though I didn't have budget for an A2 so the mixer had to jump up
from the console and run out onto the floor to tweak the setup.
The day my hair turned gray: The Suzuki violin group where it turned out
(as the tape was about to roll) that the teacher had to tune all twenty
fiddles before they could play!
