Naw, not ALL of them. I saw Chet Atkins in a studio broadcast, 3 feet away. He
was playing.
Merle Travis may have been doing multi track and multispeed recording before Les
Paul. Give a listen to "Merle's Boogie Woogie" if you can find it.
Also saw Joe Maphis on stage. Again, up fairly close. He was for real...
Can't leave out Pete Kirby (Oswald). Very real.
